What size bike for a 5 year old?
Most 5-year-olds land on a 16" for most, 20" for taller riders. But the brands themselves quote inseam ranges spanning 15.5 to 25.2 inches for this exact age, which is why the answer has to start with a tape measure and not a birthday.
Age is the wrong input. The right one is inseam, and it takes two minutes to get. A 5-year-old at the 50th percentile weighs about 39.8 lb, but body weight and leg length are only loosely related — which is why two children the same age routinely need different bikes.
