Fit still comes first
Note the inseam column. Guardian's 20 Small takes an 18.3 inch minimum leg length; woom's GO 4 wants 22.1 inches. That is nearly four inches of child between two bikes with the same wheel size.

Both are far better ratios than a five-year-old on a mass-market 16-inch, because children gain weight faster than bikes do. This is the age where weight stops being the dominant issue and gearing starts.
Gears or no gears
