What changes at 8
Eight is the last year most children spend on a 20-inch. If your child has a 24 inch inseam or more, look at 24-inch bikes instead — woom publishes a 26.4 to 32.3 inch inseam range for that size, so there is a real gap between the two, and buying a too-big 24-inch to "last" is the usual mistake here.

Weight matters less now than it did at four, because the child has grown faster than the bikes have. What matters more is gearing, brakes and whether the bike is set up properly — a badly adjusted derailleur ruins a good bike.
